What Causes Painful Lumps On The Lower Lip?

Hi, I woke up today with a few bumps on my lower lip this morning. They are slightly painful and do not have a colour to them. By the afternoon they started fading but it is 9pm and they are back and it's not actual pain but it's almost like an almost numb feeling. I used an old lipbalm yesterday before bed and thinking it might be from that but why would it start sweling up again now. Thankyou

Can understand your concern..

As per your complain sudden occurrence of bumps on lower lip which are slightly painful can be due to allergic reaction due to some insect bite or it can also be due to allergy caused by the old lip balm if it is old enough to cause allergy due to expired constituents..

As you have not taken any medication to reduce the allergy the presence of toxins in the region can cause recurrence and exaggeration of symptoms..

I would suggest you to take anti allergic medicine like allegra or benadryl to reduce the bumps as well as avoid recurrence of symptoms..

You can apply steroid based ointments like Hydrocortisone 1% on the lip for local action..

In case of pain you can take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen or advil.

Avoid scratching or touching the bumps.

In case the bumps does not resolve or there is increase in the symptoms consult a dermatologist.
