I am a suspect for Sjogren s disease and I was taking 2000 mg. of Valtrex a day due to 5 incidents in a year and a half of extremely painful mouth sores, followed recently by painful eyes that the eye Dr. said looked like like they had been rubbed with sandpaper. While waiting for the Sjogren s diagnosis, I woke up one morning with a slightly curved raised area 1 1/2 from my left eye (the medical person who saw me called it a vesicle), swelling around the eye, and the next day my left cheek was swollen, I had a 99.9 degree temp and a terrible headache. Having failed to receive any response from my regular Dr. I went to a walk-in clinic where the diagnosis was shingles and I was told to increase the Valtrex to 3000 mg. a day. When I asked my regular Dr for something for the terrible headache the next day he gave me a Medrol dose pack. When the pain continued he wanted me to increase my Topamax (to prevent migraines) from 50 mg. a day to 100 mg. He finally gave me permission to take one more Percocet a day, which I take at 5:30,7:30, and bedtime to prevent severe restless legs. I feel my Dr. has a very cavalier attitude about this: when I told him my eyes had become involved all he said was yes. It is my eye dr, who is testing me. I am afraid my face will not return to normal, since I have had 3 days of the Medrol and there is no change. I need a doctor who will explain why this happened and if I will get better. t
