Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Painful Pressure In Head While Lying On Stomach?
When I lay on my stomach it causes very painful pressure in my head, especially at the base of my head. For a couple days afterwards I get random sharp pains in my temple, sometimes lasting a mere 30sec. And other times lasting hours. Also sometimes these sharp pains are accompanied by blackened peripheral vision, which throws me off balance because I can not see to the side of my head unless I actually turn my head.
In obese individuals lying on abdomen lead increase the venous pressure in the head lead to pain. But sometimes it may be secondary to SVC obstruction or sleep apnea. So do yoga and meditation and sleep on prone position. Once check your blood pressure and vision. Please consult with your ophthalmologist or physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu, Internal Medicine Specialist
