What Causes Painful Pus Filled Blisters On The Nipples?

I have had two painful pimples on my nipples which when popped yielded pus of various consistencies and blood. The first time it happened was while I nursed my second child. I was 31 at the time. The second was last month and I m currently 57. Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello
thank you for asking the question.
painful swelling over nipple with pus and blood discharge indicates sub areolar abscess.
it is due to infection. first time it occurs to you during lactation.that is called as mastitis.it occurs due to blockage of lactating duct leads to growth of bacteria in duct with abscess.
second time it occurs at 57. so my advice is to consult a doctor and do a test to identify bacteria also to take treatment like antibiotic according to bacterial infection.
also consult a doctor to rule out cancer.
hope this will helpful to you.
