What Causes Painful Red Lump On Inner Thigh After Hip Replacement Surgery?

I recently had hip replacement surgery (7 weeks ago). Everything with my hip is perfect. The problem is I have a red swollen lump on my inner left thigh which is painful. I have been checked twice for blood clot and both times the result was negative. What is this and will it go away? I am scared and a bit nervous. Thanks.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Well, if I were your family physician for this case of post-hip replacement painful red lump on your inner thigh, I would raise some factes befor you:

1. the lump means there is some collection

2. the redness means it contains blood/blood vessels

3. pain means it is inflamed or tense causing pressure!

Therefore, combining all these, you need USG/X-ray of the region along with aspiration of its contents with microscopic studies for confirmation as this could be a sign of wound infection or post-OT collection! Therefore please consult your surgeon...

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
