What Causes Painful Red Lump On The Shin?

My husband woke up with a red bump on his shin, went to work, came back and it was super tender and really red. That was about a week ago and now the bump is changing in color to a purply black. It resembles a spider bite but we re not sure, is there anyway we can send a picture?

Hello,

The painful red bump with changing color to purple black is indicative of hematoma formation with secondary changes due to enzymatic degradation of underlying blood components. The remedy requires:
- Local application of ice
- Keep the affected leg elevated over 3-4 pillows
- Prescription of antibiotics such as Cephalosporin or penicillin, anti inflammatory such as Diclofenac, proteolytic enzymes such as serratiopeptidase

Remain in regular follow up with your doctor as certain cases do require an incision and drainage surgical procedure as well.
