What Causes Painful Red Spots In Tongue?

My teenage son has a rather large spot on his tongue that is red and hurts, he got this same thing back in January when he had all of his wisdom teeth pulled, is there anything that I can buy to help with his pain, or do you have any idea what this could be? His dentist didn't know and the oral surgeon said it was viral and had to run it's course. He is in severe pain.........please help

Thanks for your query, i have gone through your query. The red spots could be because of reccurent aphthous ulcers or herpetic ulcers. nothing to worry you can use topical anesthetic and analgesics like anabel gel. do saline gargling. do not take tension, stress or tension aggravates the onset of these ulcers. i hope my answer will help you. take care.

Thanks for using Health Care Magic.

Read your query.

The red lesions on the tongue can be due to the Vitamin B12 deficiency, oral candidiasis, having spicy intake of food or any trauma, any medications taken which are not mentioned here and many other factors.

I would advice you to visit a local oral surgeon and get it evaluated. If a biopsy is required you can get it done for definitive diagnosis.

For the pain you can take a paracetamol ,do betadine mouth gargling. The dentist will provide you with a steroid based gel for local application.

Reduce spicy food if he takes any and start with multivitamins.

Lead a stress free lifestyle.

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks and regards.
