Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My sebaceous glands are irritated and painful. After bathing they are more irritated and even a little bloody after one seemed to burst. What can I do to ease the irritation. I have been putting Vaseline jelly on them and it seems to help temporarily. My email address is Yugsmom@ aol.com
Hello and welcome to HCM, Sebaceous glands when irritated and painful result in formation of sebaceous cysts. Accumulation of sebum (secretion of sebaceous glands) in ducts of sebaceous glands can get infected and inflamed and thus turn painful. However, clinical assessment of the lesions is required to assess whether the lesions are due to enlargement and irritation of sebaceous glands. Painful lesions of this kind can be due to boils or furunculosis also. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment, diagnosis and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
