What Causes Painful Swelling And Brownish Discharge After Tooth Extraction?

I got 2 impacted wisdom teeth on the bottom taken out 5 days ago, and I still feel slight pain on the right side. I m not sure if it s dry socket or not. I can t really see the extraction wound that well because my cheeks are so swollen, but I can see a hole and when I press on it, a clear brownish liquid comes out.

Hi..
I have gone through your complain in detail and will try to solve your query with the best of my understanding and knowledge..

Slight pain and swelling after 5 days of wisdom tooth extraction is not an abnormal finding and it will gradually get subsided, you should just follow the instructions and medication given to you by your dentist..

The brownish discharge on pressing the wound is nothing but blood as slight bleeding can happen in the socket after extraction and when the blood stays there for some time it turns brownish in colour due to certain chemical reactions that takes place normally after blood is oozed out from blood vessels and again you need to worry as bleeding is not frank..

You should do cold compresses over swelling as it will reduce swelling as well as slight bleeding will also stop gradually by it..

After 7 days consult your dentist and get a checkup done and if stitches are given removal is also done after 7 days, dentist will assess the status of healing and advise you if anything has to be done ahead..

For any other query or update you can write to us again on Healthcare magic, we are always here to help you..

Wish you a soon recovery..

Thanks and regards..
