What Causes Painful Swelling Around A Healed Wound?

I have a cut (abrasion is more like it) that has not healed in over 2 weeks, not oozing but swollen and painful. I have cleaned it with peroxide but still just doesn t want to heal? Don t really think I need to go to the Dr about it, just wondering.

Hello,

If you have a non-healing ulcer, then there could be suspicion of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Kindly get your sugars checked if you have diabetes wound healing will be delayed. Get medication for the same and with proper glycemic control, your wound will heal soon.

If it is not, then we need to think of other infection which causes the patient to become immunocompromised like tuberculosis, HIV etcetera.

But there is no supporting history at all for the above, so just first get worked up for diabetes and come for follow up to me.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
