What Causes Painful Swelling Around The Left Pectoral Region?

My husband has an area of swelling and pain under his left pectoral muscle. It looks like he was possibly bitten by an insect or tick as there is a red round area the size of a quarter with a small scab in the center. He started feeling pain 6 days ago in the area and it has gotten progressively worse each day. Today the area is swollen. Kaye Davis Virginia
