What Causes Painful Swelling Below The Jaw?

The other day, there was a swollen gland underneath my right jaw...it hurt really bad and I could hardly open my mouth to eat noodles!! It has gone away now, but it was really swollen and I would like to know what you think it might be. It felt like a swollen ball. THANKS!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
According to your symptoms, it could be the result of infected lymph nodes or glands.Which could be due to infected teeth or salivary glands or tonsils.
If you suffer such symptoms in future,You can start taking an antibiotic for few days. Its better to consult a physician if the symptoms are not relieved after taking treatment.
Hope my advise was helpful to you
