Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have pain and swelling in my left jaw and neck area. The pain strings up past my ear, down my neck and under my jaw line. I received some antibiotics in the event I had an infection. I have taken these for three days. It is not helping. No xrays or Cat Scans have been done to date. What could be the problem?
Painful swelling of jaw and neck with pain radiating to ear, neck and under jawline can be due to causes like dental infection, infection in submandibular salivary gland or lymph node swelling..
So first of all you should consult an Emergency room and get a clinical examination and a CT Scan done to rule out the exact cause of swelling..
If it is due to infection then stronger antibiotics like Augmentin [Amoxicillin+ Clavulanate Potassium] can be advised along with anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and serratiopeptidases.. Also doing cool compresses can help in reducing swelling..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
