What Causes Painful Swelling In The Lower Legs?

I have pain and swelling in my lower legs. Painful more on left leg around the knee cap. There is no heat ffelt or redness. I have not had an injury to the area. PA suggest venous insufficiency and requested a Doppler, Because of holiday and lack of facility to perform test I can not have it done for a few more days. of course I worry about a clot. just had a battery of yealy blood tests all are fine. I am an active 84 year old woman, swim almost every day no other major medical conditions except hyper tension, control with medication 124/ 80

Hi,

Your concern is very right. Though it may not be a clot, ruling out a clot is very important and it should be done on an emergency basis.

I think you should go to the ER. Even if dipper is not possible we can do a blood test clued d dimers.

If that's normal then there is no chance of a clot. Of that raised then you should be started on injection of heprin until doppler is done.
