What Causes Painful Swollen Lymph Node?

35y/o female w/hx of low grade fever x1week (nighttime worse/night sweats) and had swollen lymph node in chin, right side of face. That abated approx 4 days ago. Now the left side of chin/face/neck seems to have a badly swollen lymph node. I have an extra chin from the swelling, and the swollen area is extremely sore/painful, red, and warm. I have a hx of spine issues (fusion etc) and had a thorasic epidural approx 36 hours ago. I m having a hard time swallowing, it s agonizing to smile, and have limited movement in my head because my neck is getting stiff. I take percocet 7.5/325 QID for management of the spinal pain. It is not touching the pain is my face. do I need to go to the ER or can it wait until morning?

Hello,

In my opinion you must visit ER as this is an acutely inflammatory swelling likely infectious with abscess. It should heal down with drainage if there is an abscess plus a short course of antibiotics.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
