What Causes Painful Urination After Urethral Stent Removal?
I had urethral stents placed this morning for kidney stones. They will be removed in a week. The doctor told me nothing about possible side effects. I have a slight discomfort and awareness of them when moving around. I also have a burning sensation when urinating and a feeling of needing to go to the restroom constantly. Is all this normal and will it last the whole time I have the stents?
hii.. i understand your concerns regarding ureteric stents. these stents usually starts in kidneys bypass the stones in ureter and end in bladder with the end of it coming through urethra. The most common side effects of these stents are 1) displacement, 2) infections which is the reason behind burning sensation while urinating 3) discomfort while walking 4) increased frequency of urination and urgency. these side effects usually disappear after stent removal. after going through your history it is my understanding that you have infection which can be treated with antibiotics like cipro or ofloxocin. urinary urgency can also be treated with medications, so i suggest you to talk to your treating doctor about these side effects and get symptomatic treatment till the stent is removed. hope i cleared your doubts. have a good health. thank you
