Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Very painful to urinate, it takes a while to start, then it is a slow stream. Last night I was very hydrated and had to get up 5 or 6 times to urinate. It was a strong heavy painless stream. Then yesterday I started wanting to urinate very often , sometimes barely making it to the bathroom. Tonite, I have had to get up an average of probably every hour, to hour and forty five minutes. Now my left side (kidney?) has a dull pain. I am 60 years old and just had a prostate exam about 3 or 4 weeks ago. It is four in the morning, can you give some possibilities of what it might be and what I should do and/or take until I can see a doctor in the morning? YYYY@YYYY All lower case
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Yes this may be prostate issue such as hypertrophy, but these symptoms are also suggestive of uroinfection and this is common in your age and usually is manifested with pain during urination, fever and changes in urination frequency. Also, blood traces may be present in urine which can have odour or colour change.
Other common cause are urinary stones. Diagnosis is established by doing urine analysis and urinoculture and after this antibiotic treatment may be started if necessary. If there is negative urine analysis then you should do ultrasound of kidneys to check for stones. You should drink plenty of fluids and take raspberry tea or juice to promote urination. I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
