Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Painfully Swollen Ankles A Month After Placing Stents Above Knee?
My mom had two stents placed, just above her knee about 4 weeks ago. These stents were not tiny, they were very long. Yesterday she mowed her yard for about an hour or 2 using a ride on lawn mower. This morning her ankle was very swollen and painful and this had remained throughout the day. I am concerned about clots. Would that be typical 4 weeks post stent placement?
As per my clinical experience, the swollen ankle with pain persistent throughout the day do indicate underlying significant problem with the limb. As there is history of stenting lower limb, it is mandatory to evaluate the peripheral pulsations as well as circulation with the color Doppler of the lower limb. Immediately consult her with her operative vascular surgeon.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
