Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I usually do not exercise, however last week we went on vacation and was in a 4 story house. I walked ALOT of steps, walked on the beach and went to a 2 day softball tournament in the very hot heat. I drank plenty of gatorade and water but I also drank some sweet tea only while at the house. Both my feet and ankles started swelling Saturday at the tournament. Got some better with rest that night but MUCH worse and even hurt on Sunday during softball game and 4 hour ride home. By that night they hurt and were huge. The swelling goes down with rest and being in air condition but continue to swell a little each day. Then gets better at night. This has never happened before? I m 40 and I am over weight. 5 7 and 250 lbs.
You may be having swelling of the legs due to the insufficiency of the veins of the legs. This is typically better with rest (lying down) and worse by the end of the day. You may need to use leg compresses to keep your feet from swelling. If this is not helping or you develop any chest pain or shortness of breath you will need an examination of your heart.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
