Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Painfully Swollen Upper And Lower Jaw?
In the span of only 20 minutes, the area from the top of my jar (adjacent to left ear) all the way to the bottom of the jaw line swelled up rock hard and pressure is painful. What the heck could have caused that? I have no known alergies and I have had no dental work done that would trigger this randomly and so quickly.
The symptoms that you are explaining is pointing toward either allergic reaction or can also be due to blocked duct of the salivary gland that can cause pooling of saliva in the gland itself. So my suggestion is to consult an oral physician and get evaluated. If it is due to allergy anti-allergic medication like Levocetirizine or Benadryl can help in reducing swelling.
In case if it is due to obstruction in the duct of salivary gland then manual or surgical removal of the obstruction can help in reducing swelling.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
