Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pale Bowel Movement While On A Turmeric Supplement?
Age 69, general arthritis treated for years with Mobic 15 mg once daily; relative recommended turmeric (curcumin) for relief of stiffness and inflammation. Used 3 days and felt so much better; however, notice stool with little/no color. Research indicated possible gallbladder duct block of bile. Relative has no such experience. I m concerned. Stopped Turmeric and color returned to stool. Does this mean I cannot take this supplement?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Turmeric doesn’t cause any biliary blockage.
The odd color of the stool might be due to pigments in the turmeric supplement. You can take turmeric supplements and it won’t do any harm. However raw turmeric is better than supplements.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks
