What Causes Paleness In Hands And Feet Along With Inflammation Of Fingers?

pretty sure I have Raynauds phenomon. For the last few years my fingers turn white as if there is no blood flowing. Same problem with my feet. Sometimes my finers ache and burn; right now as I m typing theses words. If I let my arm down all the way it starts to go back to normal. It s usually just the finger tips, but to often the whole palm along with the finger tips is as white as snow and very uncomfortable. I m 77 years old and this problem is getting worse. CAN YOU DIRECT ME ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It sounds like you may indeed have Raynaud's phenomenon, a condition that causes blood vessels in the fingers and toes to constrict, leading to reduced blood flow and paleness. This also gets accompanied by numbness, tingling sensation and pain. There are two types of Raynaud's phenomenon: primary, which is not associated with an underlying medical condition, and secondary, which is linked to other health problems such as autoimmune diseases or certain medications.

If you haven't already, it would be a good idea to speak with your doctor about your symptoms. They may refer you to a specialist such as a rheumatologist or vascular specialist for further evaluation and treatment. Treatment for Raynaud's phenomenon can include lifestyle changes such as avoiding cold temperatures and stress, as well as medication to improve blood flow.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
