What Causes Palpitations After Drinking Sports Drink?
Hello. Today I rode my bike in 95 degree heat or about and hour and a half. It was a leisurley ride and I felt fine during and after the ride. However, as soon as I drank a sports drink when I was done my heart immediately started racing. That was 3 hours ago and it still is racing. I took pulse and it was 134. Before bike ride it was in mid 60 s. I had two sports drinks and some water after my ride. I also take flecainide and pradaxa to help control heart rate issues. Am I just dehydrated? I didnt sweat that much but was definitely the toughest bike ride I ve had in a few years. Any suggestions to help get rater back down?
There sounds possible interaction with metabolism of your anti arrhythmic drugs after intake of sports drink which may interfere with the system of P 450 of the liver pathway to metabolise the drugs. You need immediate EKG with your doc for best possible guidelines of management.
