What Causes Palpitations While On Lopressor?

I m on 100mg lopressor twice a day. I cut back to 50mg in the AM and 100mg in the PM a week ago. Now every time I stand up after sitting for awhile I get this feeling that my heart is beating strongly for about 1 minute and I have to sit down again for the feeling to go away. Then I can get up again without that feeling reoccurring. Any comments

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
The palpitation and the dizziness you might feel is called orthostatic hypotension. It is your blood vessels trying to maintain a viable pressure when you abruptly change positions. It is the low blood pressure that makes you feel the increased heart beats, your heart is trying to pump harder for the pressure lost at that moment.

My advise is to consult your doctor before cutting down on the dosage of your blood pressure medication.
