Anxiety and stress cause the body to produce adrenaline which prepares the body yo deal with stressful situation either "flight or fight" response. This cause high heart beat thus causing palpitation. This normal a normal response when your are faced with threatening situation The main issue is when this occurs for prolonged time may end up causing high blood pressure.
