What Causes Panic Attack Upon Tapering The Methadone Dosage?

HI there I am currently on methadone and have been for the last five years.. At the highest point I was at 90ml and I am now tapering and at .37ml. I have only been tapering recently as I stayed at 40 ml for around 4 months. Out of nowhere today at work I lost all wind and couldn t breath what so ever. I also around when I first tapered to 40ml had my first ever panic attack. So once I realised I was having a tough time breathing my anxiety went through the rough making it way worse. I haven t got my full breath back yet around 45 min but it def has gotten much better. Also yesterday I was having some major chest pains and shooting sensations near or around my heart... Is there a relation to the methadone taper? Should I go to the hospital? Any information you have I will greatly appreciate. Cheers, Scott

I understand your concerns, withdrawal from opioids like methadone can cause anxiety symptoms.

However, you need to provide a detailed history of why you were put on methadone and have you had any previous history of panic disorders.
