Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having a colonoscopy tomorrow, I used the pills and drink to clean out the intestines and I noticed tiny black specks on the surface of the stool. This is the very small stool about the size of a small finger nail and the specks are about the size of the head of matches and smaller. What can they be?
You did not mention your age. The most common causes of tiny black specks in the stool are supplements in the diet. Dark-colored stools may result from iron supplements, foods you eat (a lot of spinach), substances, but most significantly suggests bleeding from the stomach, small intestine or large intestine. Kindly consult the doctor regarding this problem for quick and early assessment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
