What Causes Passing Of Black Stools While Taking Pepto?
This I have been having black tarry stills for about 2 to three days and taking pepcid in evening. Somethings take Pepto which does cause black stools but have not taken for at least not four days or so. Have had 2 feet of colon removed in the past due to diverticulitis. Started having intermittent crampy pains from ribs to pelvic area and bloating tonight I take some pepcid sometimes Dr. Gave it to me to take 20 mg at bedtime I think when needed. Have been talking 20 my at bedtime for a few days now and notice black tarry stools. This said FREE at beginning.
Black stools can sometimes indicate the presence of blood in the stool though they can be due to other causes such as medication or foods/drink. Pepcid can affect the stool color but would normally cause light colored stool rather than dark stools.
With a history of diverticular disease and colon resection, it would be best to see your doctor for assessment. This should include physical examination and possibly a stool sample to the lab as well.
If blood is confirmed then further testing would be needed.
I hope this helps
