What Causes Patches Of White Hair After Head Trauma?
I suffered head trauma and ever since the hair whuch grows is white , and i have black hair, its been 15 years and the patches are getting bigger , a hair dressers said he rarely sees this and thunks its is linked to head trauma , do you agree? Thanks
Patches of white hair on the scalp or on any hairy area is called poliosis. Poliosis means lack of melanin (the pigment in the skin that gives it colour) in a patch of hair. Poliosis can be a result of certain genetic disorders and can also result from an autoimmune disease called alopecia areata, with patchy loss of hair followed by growth of white hair in the hairless patch but this hair usually returns to its normal colour later. Also poliosis can occur because of another disease called sarcoidosis. So, the best thing would be to go to a dermatologist and get yourself evaluated. Since it has been present for years and there have been no other symptoms it is unlikely that it is because of something serious.
