What Causes Peeling And Breaking Of Fingernails After Taking Plaquenil?

I too am a health care professional but have recently started back on placqenil and found that my nails are shredding past the quik. Have been on this medication before and felt great on it. Now the nail problems though small is really strange and painful. Have you ever heard of this side effect as I certainly have not? Thank you for any help or ideas.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is unlikely related to plaquenil. Consult a dermatologist and get evaluated. Possibility of a onycholysis or fungal infection must be ruled out.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
