What Causes Peeling Lips While On Mega L-lysine?

I used to get single cold sores many years ago. Now 3-5 spots seem to ulcerate and then scab over or if I get them in time they just disappear . no inflammation,no pain or weeping. so I don t think they are true cold sores . I have recently used mega l-lycine to treat and now have peeling lips just mildly but often . Can you please comment . Thanks,Anne

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Anne,

Yes, you are right, Mega L-lysine to treat herpes infection (the cause for sores). Can take 312 mg and up to 4 g per day.
But first should confirm the diagnosis of herpes. You can send a photo to me.

Apply glycerin of borax locally around the mouth and inside to help heal the sores.

We should also consider candida overgrowth, and anemia.
So, should get complete blood count and oral swab culture to rule out respective illness.

All the best.
