What Causes Peeling Of Skin From The Toes And Feet?

My 16 year old daughter went on a trip to Alaska. She s been back about 3 weeks. She stayed at a camp there. She is having a lot of peeling skin on the bottom of her toes and balls of her feet. She was in a lake up there and was told to shower after getting out of the lake because something in the water would cause itching. She used a shower in a bath house. I don t know if she has contracted like a foot fungus or if whatever in the lake has caused the issue. She got her flip flops wet in the lake and I don t know if the lake water on her shoes caused the issue. There s no pain or itching. Her feet are slightly red and peeling quite badly

General Surgeon 's  Response
Keeping the feet wet for prolonged periods, especially in cold water can later cause the skin to become dry, and start pealing off. The best way to manage this is to use a skin softner, like petroleum Jelly(Vaseline), at least twice a day on both feet, and gently massage the skin. In all probability it is not a fungus, and should be fine with management in a few days time.
