What Causes Peeling Of Skin On Fingers And Palm Of Hands?

I have been using Hydrocortisone 1o/o w/w cream, together with Elave intensive cream for one week now because of peeling of skin of my fingers, which has now spread to the palms of my hands. I got the above from the pharmacist. Do I need to go to the doctor? I don t know what caused this! I have never had it before. I am over 70 years. Thanks for your advice. Maria

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
It may be exfoliative keratolysis. Do you experience excessive sweating in your palms??
- You should protect your hand from irritants like detergents/ doaps/ handwashes.
- Stop using emollient hand creams (especially those containing urea, lactic acid, or silicone)
- Or you can try localized PUVA therapy
Wishing you speedy recovery..
