What Causes Peeling Of The Skin On The Hands?

Skin on husband s hands is peeling...just started a couple days ago, but it s like they ve been in water too long and are just shedding like a snake s skin. He s a diabetic and has athlete s foot and dry skin otherwise which we are treating with various medicated prescribed liquid, plus aloe, OTC anti-itch, Gold Bond, and shea butter...It s not eczema or psoriasis or shingles...I m flummoxed!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.

Your skin peeling could be because of contact dermatitis or preexisting athletes foot that you are having. First get rid of fungal infection by topical antifungal use like 1% luliconazole cream. For dermatitis topical calamine lotion can be prescribed. I suggest you to consult dermatologist for examination and get prescription.

Hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
