What Causes Periodic Pain Across Left Scalp And Behind The Neck?

Hi A few days ago I felt slight periodic pain across the left side of my scalp. It seemed to radiate from the left back side of my neck . The pain has seemed to increase over the last 3 days. The pain is not constant. It also hurts when I lightly touch the left side of my scalp. It does not last. I m also feeling pain if I cough or sneeze. The pain does not last for more than 10 seconds. I have taken ibuprofen and that seems to take the edge off.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Periodic pain across the left scalp & behind the neck may be due to Occipital Neuralgia. But it can be confused with migraine or tension headache.

I suggest you visit a GP, get physically examined. Get CT, MRI done at the earliest. Get diagnosed so that your treatment can be started.

Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
