Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Periodic Spasms On Hands And Fingers While On Albuterol And Advair?
In the last month or so I have periodic spasms in my hands and fingers. It happens at any time day or night. It is becoming more frequent. Either left of right hand becomes frozen in a claw-like position. It will eventually become flexible by itself after a minute or so or I can move it or rub it with the other hand. There is some pain. I recently started taking inhaled Albuterol and Advair for a chronic lung condition.
Albuterol induced side effects. Hypokalemia (low blood potassium level) is a well-known side effect of Albuterol causing muscle cramps and spasms. By reducing the frequency of the use of Albuterol the side effects will subside. Consult your treating doctor if the symptoms persist so that an alternate effective but a safer medicine would be prescribed for you.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
