What Causes Peripheral Neuropathy?

I am scheduled for an EMG tomorrow - I have been experiencing what I am told is peripherl neuropathy. Since the diagnosis I have been using capsaicin on my feet and the symptoms are almost non-existent now. I am considering cancelling the EMG. If I go through with it, what can possibly be found, and, what can be done?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. . I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
This indicates peripheral neuropathy which is a result of damage to your peripheral nerves, often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in your hands and feet. It can also affect other areas of your body.
Treatment actually depends on the right cause. Most common causes are diabetes, alcoholism, inherited disorders or trauma and medications however, many other causes may be seen so tests are required to identify the right one. Till that you can do some general remedies: Avoid factors that may cause nerve damage, including repetitive motions, cramped positions, exposure to toxic chemicals, smoking and overindulging in alcohol. Also take vitamin d supplemets and regulate blood sugar levels.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
