What Causes Peripheral Swelling After Taking Norvasc?

I have been taking Losartan 100mg and my doctor has added Diltiazem 180mg due to an increase in BP. I take no other medications. I have taken other HBP meds over the years but had different reactions... cough in some. I took Norvasc for years but developed peripheral swelling... and changed to Losartan. Tried diuretic at one point and my toes swelled like sausages. So... now we are trying the addition of Diltiazem. My hesitancy to begin is... I fear my BP falling too low. I am a 59 year old female. My current BP is 180/90 in the doctor's office, but 166/86 in my home. Am I safe adding Diltiazem? How much do I need to worry about my BP being adjusted down too far??? :-) THANKS!
