Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am trying to discover a diagnosis; this person has persecutory delusions that people are after him muslims specific reference. While maintaining at times the ability to coherently and cognitively answer questions regarding life history with no noted history of mental illness
I went through your details. These comes under delusional disorders. It is a primary disorder. It is a stable disorder characterized by the presence of delusions to which the patient clings with extraordinary tenacity. The illness is chronic and frequently lifelong. These delusions are logically constructed and internally consistent. The patients will have the ability to coherently and cognitively answer questions regarding life history. There may not be any other physical or mental disorder symptoms.
Differential diagnosis includes ruling out other causes such as drug-induced conditions, dementia, infections, metabolic disorders, and endocrine disorders. Individual and group psychotherapy proves to be good as a treatment measure. At acute stages, anti-psychotic drug may also be needed. I suggest you to consult a psychiatrist ASAP.
