Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent MRSA Infection Despite Taking Medication?
I am 70 years of age and in relatively good health, however, I did have a total hip replacement in late Mar. During pre-admission testing a couple of weeks prior to surgery they found I had MRSA. I was given antibiotics and an ointment to put up my nostrils. On the day of surgery I was tested again and still had it. It was determined I was a MRSA carrier and would be the rest of my life. I don t want to rely on antibiotics so how do I get rid of this infection?
Go for a pus culture and sensitivity. Start antibiotics according to the culture reports.
Topical antibiotics like mupirocin can also be applied to the nasal mucosa. Antibiotics will be the mainstay of the treatment and antibiotics shows good results.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
