What Causes Persistent Abdominal Pain Along With Nausea And Blood In Stools?

Hi, my name is Liz. I am 41 year old female. I have been having a problem with my stomach off and on since April of 2015. My main symptom is severe nausea, but I never vomit. Sometimes I will come very close. My stomach is tender to the touch and feels enlarged. They did an ultrasound in June of this year and it did not show any signs for concern. My pancreatic enzymes were slightly elevated, but other than that everything seemed okay. It eventually went away, but came back about 3 weeks ago along with some diarrhea and then severe constipation. I was at the doctor this past Friday for a mild case of bronchitis, and told her I thought that I had an ulcer. She had me do an Hpylori test which was negative. I did have some red blood in my stool about 2 weeks ago and there was a lot of mucus. I spent a lot on this last ultrasound, they suggested we do another one on Friday, but I am unsure. What would you suggest?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Thank you for your query,

Nausea, diarrhoea alternating with constipation, blood and mucus in stools suggest intestinal pathology.
Would you please clarify a few things for me.
1) how old are you and do you smoke,, have alcohol or other recreational drugs?
2) do you any family members with similar problems?
3) what enzyme level was elevated
4) were you investigated for kidney and liver function.
5) did they check if you were anemic? or check for Tumour markers?
6) when checking for H.Pylori, what test was done?

I would recommend a consult with a gastroenterologist and an endoscopy / colonoscopy to directly visualise your intestine to rule out tumour.
Ultrasound will not give you. much information on what is happening inside your bowels.
I would advice you not to wait much longer and see your physician for a gastroenterologist opinion ASAP.

in case of a tumour , early detection and treatment is of key importance to leading a healthy life. if you smoke, stop.( if you find it difficult there is help , just feel free to ask)
hope this helps.
please let us know if you need any clarification.
wish you good health
