Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had hysterectomy done in September 2015. I had fibrod which was the cause of my anemia. But despite of the hysterectomy I still have a case of anemia. What could be the cause of this. I thought hysterectomy was the solution for this problem. Please help.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Recovery from anaemia could take a little longer time and would be determined by the blood loss what you could have been having when you had fibroids. Also, surgery involving removal of uterus could have resulted in certain amount of blood loss, which would further take more time to recover back to normal. The cause for persistent anaemia in your case could be due to bleeding in GI tract, commonly due to piles/fissures or due to nutritional deficiency from poor dietary intake/absorption. Kindly take supplements for a month in the form of iron, folic acid and Vitamin B12 capsules and consume food rich in iron regularly like jaggery and dark-green leafy vegetables. It should improve your iron levels in the body and help you to recover from anaemia. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
