Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a weird taste in my mouth for about 3 months. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat or drink, (healthy or unhealthy) within an hour after consuming something, I am aware that the bad taste is back again. Even after brushing my teeth, the taste comes back. I have been taking an antacid (over the counter) medication and/or 2 or 3 TUMS which does reduce the symptoms, but does not eliminate it. I usually have 1 - 3 bowel movements everyday.
As per your complain, bad taste in mouth can occur due to a number of causes like oral and dental infection, post nasal drip, side effect of medication, acid reflux, tonsil stones, dry mouth, sinusitis, respiratory infection, etc. I would suggest you to consult an oral physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation has to be done followed by checking your medical history of taking medication and illnesses.
As if the symptoms get better with antacids then it can probably be due to acid reflux. As of now you can avoid excess of onion and garlic, take small frequent meals, drink plenty of water, chew flavored sugar free chewing gums.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
