What Causes Persistent Bouts Of Dry Cough Causing Pain In Chest?
Hi, I have had a bad dry cough for the better part of 3 months which sometimes has little mucous and sometimes nothing. The cough is usally worst in the morning after waking up and sometimes comes back for an hour thoughout the day. I went to the doctors and he put me on antibiotics and that didnt work then i re visited him and got precribed asthma puffers and that hasnt worked. I started on a CPAP machaine earlier in the year and was wondering if it could be that. Ive lowered the humidity on it the last few days and that doesnt seem to do much. Just concerened as my chest hurts from coughing for so long. Cheers Jay
1. As the symptom [coughing] is there for more than 3 month, and there is no relief with the conventional line of treatment thus following should be your approach:
If other investigations are normal, HIV test [as routine] PS. As cough is there for > 15 days, no response to antibiotics thus this is an indication for immediate X-ray.
ii. The choice of antibiotic will vary from doctor to doctor, and from locality to locality.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Munish Sood
