Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Chest Pain And Heart Murmur In A 9 Year Old?
I have an 8 1/2 year old daughter who is very healthy and active. Five days ago she started complaining of chest pains that came on all of a sudden and have been chronic and spuratic since then going from one side of her chest to the other. First it was described as dull pain then turning to sharp stabbing pains on the left side of her chest right over her heart. An urgent care Dr advised 24 hours after the chest pains began that the chest pains are due to normal growth changes in the chest ligaments but also detected a heart murmur . We had the heart murmur re-evaluated by my daughter s pediatrician yesterday and was told there is a sqeaking noise in her heartbeat and have been referred for an echocardiogram with our local pediatric cardiologist group at Strong Memorial Hospital. Have you any information on what this might be considered to be an indication of and is it life threatening? Thank You Sheila A, Rochester NY
since you have consultedpaediatric cardiologist is a right decision.continue to be under his treatment.it appears to be cardiac-problem. it is not life threatening, can be given medication and if required surgery.nowadays surgery is safe.
