Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Your main problem is severe coughing which may lead to gagging or choking sometimes.

This chronic coughing without fever or swollen glands since long time could be due to acute bronchitis, allergic bronchitis or upper respiratory infection and but be further evaluated by complete respiratory examination and some relevant tests.

It must not be ignored and should be provided medical attention.

So,you should undergo routine blood investigations,ESR,sputum tests for routine-microscopy and acids fast bacilli and X- ray chest to rule out any other pathology of lung.

Here,I will not advise you to continue cough drops or syrup which you are taking since it is only for a symptomatic relief and you need to be found out the underlying cause. So,that we can plan further course of action in order to have permanent relief.

You will require full course of antibiotics (quinolones or cephalosporins) with anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic (antihistamines or steroids) with supportive treatment.

Consult pulmonologist or physician who will examine you thoroughly and start the treatment earliest.

Hope this will be helpful how to proceed further.

Regards,
I find this answer helpful
