Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Circular Skin Rash Despite Using Antifungal Creams?
My wife had a half inch prick by a rusty nail 3 months ago. after 15 days a circular ring worm looking formation was seen around the central point. There was no puss or like it in the wound. Antibacterial and anti fungus ointments/creams were used under the advice of the doctor. She has also taken anti-fungus capsules. Not much has improved. The skin rash like thing has a dia of about 3 inches now. The biopsy shows no malignant thing. Also sees no fungus or bacteria. What to do.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Non-responsiveness to anti-fungal or anti-bacterial treatment rules out infection to be the cause of rash. The rash could be due to viral infection. Viral infections are accompanied by skin rashes and fever. However, if there is no such history, there may be primary skin disease responsible for the rash. As of now no possible cause of rash has been found out even on biopsy. You may observe the rash for any changes. In case the rash changes in color or severity, you may consult a dermatologist for further management.
