Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Cough Along With Shortness Of Breath And Wheezing?
I have been coughing and short of breath and wheezing for about three months. My primary md says I have asthma. I was taking a an inhaler called Breo but was getting dizzy and thrush so I stopped. After a few weeks my head also became stuffy and would have trouble breathing particularly at night and early morning. I went to urgent care and they said bronchitis. X-Ray showed no pneumonia and he prescribed a medrol pack and doxycycline. My stuffiness is better but I continue to cough frequently and must use rescue inhaler in early morning. Should I return to long term inhaler while taking medrol pack? Does this sound like asthmatic bronchitis? Is it chronic?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent cough along with shortness of breath and wheezing. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like COPD symptoms , acute bronchitis , acid reflux , asthmatic condition , sleeping apnea or upper respiratory infection. Need not to worry. For now eat light at night , take benadryl twice a day and keep your head elevated while lying down. Avoid intake of outside food. Avoid cold, carbonated beverages. I would suggest you to consult pulmonologist for proper examination. Doctor may order chest x-ray, blood test and check vitals along with vitals. Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist for upper respiratory tract infection or post nasal drip or allergy specialist for asthma. Doctor may also recommend CPAP machine after sleep study .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
