What Causes Persistent Cough And Chest Congestion?

I am having a very irritating and constant cough. It feels like it is in my chest and my nose is all stuffy. I cough up phelym but it is not going away. I have tried drinking hot tea, cough drops, cough syrup but nothing is helping. I can't sleep or rest. I thought it was sinus drainage but not sure.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection, also known as Common Cold and the symptoms of nasal congestion and cough seems to be due to it..
It can also be due to sinus infection or sinusitis..

You should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do a clinical examination and advise investigations like PNS view x ray of sinuses and blood tests along with throat swab culture to confirm the diagnosis...

In case if there is sinus infection a course of antibiotics like Augmentin will be advised..
As of now you can start with supportive treatment to relieve the symptoms like:
1. Gargle with a warm saline solution that is by mixing 1 teaspoon salt in a glass of water and warm it to make a luke warm solution..
2. Take a combination of decongestant like Phenylephrine, mucolytic like Ambroxol and anti allergic levocetrizine and another combination of Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen..
3. Do steam inhalations..
4. Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
5. Sip on warm water throughout the day..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
