What Causes Persistent Cough And Wheezing Post Treatment For Pneumonia And Bronchospasms?

I have been hospitalized twice . Once for a community based bacterial pnuemonia and a second time for continuing brochospasm due to an infection in my air passages . I still have the same isuues, my cough , wheezing and shortness of breath have not stopped, this has been going on for a month. I am currently under the care of a pulmonary specialist , what would be a possible cause for this to be continuing on so long for ?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history well and understood that your coughing, wheezing has been continued in spite of treatment under Pulmonologist.
The possible causes I can think about are as follows:
Resistant bacteria: Needs repeated culture and sensitivity of the mucus on coughing.
Tuberculosis: By tests of sputum for AFB that is acid fast bacilli and relevant blood tests.
Also go for CT scan of chest as there may be a patch of bronchiectasis that may need surgical removal.
Abscess formation.
Tests of immunological depression and correction accordingly.
Pulmonary function tests.
Rule out diabetes or HIV like diseases that cause delayed response to treatment.
Take a Second opinion of another Pulmonologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant,
